SEMS AUDITING

Data integrity, transparency, and consistency are central to implementing an effective management system. The SEMS 'Self Assessment' process provides a SEMS user with an immediate analysis of their greenhouse gas emissions and resource use, and their progress in implementing sustainable management practices.

However, 'self assessment' is inherently open to bias. A SEMS Audit ensures that the SEMS framework has been applied correctly and consistently. A SEMS Audit allows an organization to compare events across different departments or subsidiaries with the confidence that they are comparing apples with apples.

Under a SEMS Audit an independent and qualified event sustainability expert, training and qualified to audit ISO 20121 conformity assessment, reviews the answers that the SEMS Principal has provided about an event against the evidence provided to support the answer. If the Auditor concludes that the evidence does not support the answer, then the Auditor will either:
  1. adjust the answer to reflect what the Auditor adjudges to be the correct answer based on the evidence, or
  2. will ask the SEMS Principal to provide further evidence.

Once the Auditor is satisfied that the SEMS Score correctly reflects the status of the event, they will confirm the SEMS result and provide a final report to the SEMS Principal.

BASED ON THIS RESULT, THE SEMS AUDIT WILL BE COMPLETED AND AN ISO 20121 CONFORMITY ASSESSED LOGO and CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT CERTIFICATE  WILL BE SENT TO YOU FOR YOUR USE.

Benefits

Auditing your SEMS performance is important for a number of reasons:
  • provides a robust assessment of the true level of sustainable event management achieved within the organisation
  • gives the organisation the right to publish their level of attainment
  • provides guidance on how to further improve sustainability performance
  • offers recognition of your sustainability performance

Process

Once your assessment is complete and you have uploaded the appropriate evidence, you will purchase an SEMS Audit token through the online shop and then simply click the 'submit for audit' button.

A qualified SEMS Auditor will be assigned your assessment. The auditor will systematically review your self-assessment and supporting evidence. For each response you gave, they will either accept that your evidence supports the response, request additional evidence, or adjust the response to reflect the evidence provided. Upon completion of the audit the Auditor will create a final report which will include your audited results, the level of achievement and comments on performance and opportunities to improve. You will be advised when the audit is complete and will be able to download the report and any certification badges from your Event Dashboard.
